“Anderson House: The Home of the Society of the Cincinnati”
with Emily Parsons, Deputy Director and Curator
Free Event • Live with Q&A
Anderson House, a National Historic Landmark in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC, is the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati. The Society is the nation’s oldest historical organization, founded in 1783 by officers of the Continental Army and their French counterparts who served together in the American Revolution. Anderson House, completed in 19o5, was originally the winter home of Larz and Isabel Anderson, a wealthy couple who devoted their lives to public service, travel, entertaining, collecting, and philanthropy. The mansion remains decorated with much of the Andersons’ furnishings and art collection, together with art and artifacts of the Society of the Cincinnati and the Revolutionary War. Today Anderson House is home to the American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati, which promotes understanding and appreciation of the American Revolution and its legacy through its research library, temporary exhibitions, public programs, and education resources.
